G'morning, Coffee
Going over to The Offspring place for a little breakfast here in a minute.

[info]alleycat2681 has been hanging out with her over the last couple of days. They’ve been working on an entry for the 48 Hour Film Festival. The Offspring’s BF is a director/actor and is probably running them ragged!

We’ll see what happens after...

dod-g-radzooks!

Went to see Shakespeare In the Park @ Hermann Park with The Offspring last night. Even though i was exhausted. I've had a tough two weeks at work.

Met her at her abodium sometime before the show. She cooked us a nice dinner of Vegetarian enchiladas. And no I am not. Quite good though. We left her house with plenty of time to get to the show. As we got closer, the sky clouded up. Thunder banged and lightning struck a few times. We were just walking up to the shell, when the sky' opened up. A terrific downpour ensued. The hill was filled with people too. Soaked folks they were, at this point.

Was just one of those freakish thunderstorms we get at this time of year that seem to come up from out of nowhere. It spent itself on the overheated park grounds in a matter of minutes and was gone almost as fast as it came upon us.

The play was Cymbeline. One of Will's I hadn't seen before. That is usually a treat! From the program for last night's show:

Cymbeline is alternately characterized as a romance, tragicomedy and as a comedy of forgiveness, Shakespeare’s play depicts a tyrannical king who repulses a virtuous daughter and rewards the vicious members of his family with predictably unhappy consequences.

This was a GREAT performance. Hillarious!

Did I mention that The Offspring was the Assistant Director? No?  And did I mention that her BF had one of the leading roles? No? Well, he did! He was one of the vicious family members.

I am very proud of them both!

Marvelous! Most of the cast were very young (relative to me!) and very talented. They were very pleased that the audience was quite engaged with the show. And we were. We laughed in the right places and expressed awe or astonishment in all the right places! There is a lot of laughter in this show.

Just what the doctor ordered for me. Rain, sweat and mirth! It was quite hot out. I did get a good soaking on the way to our seats. No matter. It is August in Houston so I was gonna be damp no matter what!

A great evening though...

dod-t-roday?

Well, today was a pretty lazy day. I think it needed to be. Didn't leave the house, except to go to the corner store. Spent the day and most of tonight farking about on the computer and watching the Olympics.

Read a little too. Seems that whenever I pick up my book though, I end up with it laying on my face while I try to snore through the pages. *grins*

Got a bunch of tunes from eMusic and iTunes today. One of the managers on the floor (at work) said he had never met anyone with such a wide and eclectic taste in music. Any way, picked up some more Rhonda Viincent, "Ragin' Live" and "All American Bluegrass Girl". A little CCR, and some Hank Williams (Sr.).

A good bit of a young gal named Sierra Hull. "Secrets" is the name of the CD. She's a mandolin player with a very swwet voice. Picked up some Dan Tyminski ('member the Soggy Bottom Boys from Oh Brother Where Art Thou?). "Wheels" A CD full of Mozart's requiems. A few Gregorian Chants. Chants?!? *Now where did THAT come from?*

A few free singles from iTunes. Those are the ones you liste to a few times to decide if ou like them. If you do, cool, keep them around. If not well into your virtual trashcan they go. No loss. Ledisi, Monte Negro, My Morning Jacket, Carrie Rodriguez, Jamey Johnson.

Oh yeah and an old Isaac Hayes tune.

It ain't as bad as it looks. I had 50 free downloads from eMusic.com. So the music bill is lower this payday. *heh*

I have really been into Bluegrass (wikipedia) lately. I like both the contemporary and traditional styles. This year I am really listening to a more contemporary style.

I'm still listening to a lot of other stuff, but my purchases and downloads are running about two-to-one for Bluegrass.

I am REALLY likin' Rhonda Vincent. She blends the old fashioned with more contemporary sounds. Little more traditional than Allison Krause.

Dan Tyminski's "Wheels" just gets me. His pickin' style and vocals just speak to me.

Miss Sierra Hull will be another one I'll have to watch for.

The Queen and [info]alleycat2681  went up to east Texas on Friday, so it has just been me and the animals this weekend. They'll be back tomorrow.

Think I'm off to bed soon. I want to get an early start on the laundry and personal hygiene thing in the morning.

sleepy
Earlier this afternoon I asked The Queen and [info]alleycat2681 if they wanted to go see a movie this afternoon. I was thinking either 'The Happening' or 'Wanted'. I was leaning towards 'Wanted'. A little actio never hurt anyone, and besides Angelina ain't too hard on the eyes either! *grins*

The Queen declined *sigh* as I thought she would. [info]alleycat2681 was up for it though.

Over to the Alamo Drafthouse we go. Had a nice dinner and a movie! Movie was cool. A little far fetched but fun none the less. Morgan Freeman said the MF word! I think I was as shocked as [info]alleycat2681 was! LOL!

After the movie we were getting ready to leave, when we both noticed we had calls from The Offspring. [info]alleycat2681 gave her a call while I finished my beer. She was asking if maybe [info]alleycat2681 wanted to do something. She explained that she had just seen a movie with me, but maybe we could get some dinner or something.

We decided to drive into town to the Heights where The Offspring lives and then we would decide from there what to do.

I drove us into town, had to take a slight detour down Memorial Drive as the Eastbound Katy was shutdown at the loop, so it took a little longer than usual to get to The Offspring's house over off of 20th street. We hung out for a little while at the house, just shooting the shit and goofing with Dizzy the one eyed cat and The Offspring's roomate's mini Dachshund, Hobbs. So good to get to hang with both of my girls. Don't often get to hang with them both at once!

Once we all decided it was time to put some food in us, The Offspring took us over to The King Biscuit Patio Cafe. The girls had margs (seems like only yesterday they were in Middle school) and shared a plate of potato enchiladas. I had a beer and a greek salad.

"What? No meat?!?" They exclaimed. *grins* It was all good stuff! But one fly in the ointment ~ What is it with puttting radicchio in salads these days? Almost ruins a salad for me.

After we finished eating I stepped outside for a smoke. There was a beautifully restored old Mercedes convertible roadster. Candy apple red. Damned thing must have been 12 feet long! What a work of motor car art though! It was a beaut!

We shared some blueberry cobbler for dessert. Yum!

After that we headed over to Antidote Coffee for coffee, tea and chai. Got myself a nice Cafe au lait. The Offspring played with my iPhone for a while and we took a few pics with her room mate's camera. Didn't have mine with me as I hadn't a clue we would be going into town and had left my bag (and hence the camera) at the house. No matter.

Got a nice little shower while we were there, too. Bailed from there back to the kiddo's house. We left so The Offspring could make it an early night as she has to open at $tarBuck$ in the AM.

So what did y'all do with your Saturday?

The other day I was in a toy store, yes a real toy store and not my usual one, Fry's Electronics. I found this little 6 In. talk remote control droid, that I thought would be good for screwing with alleycat2681's cat, Link.

Some assembly was required. And some disassembly as well. The instructions are primarily in Pictures and Japanese(!). It runs on three triple A batteries and the remote runs on three watch batteries.

Got it together and running in short order. Note: it doesn't run well on carpet...

Fortunately Link was hangin' out in the kitchen. Set the droid down on the floor, right in front of the cat. Set it to moving and making noise. The Cat couldn't care less. Watched for a minute or two and went back to sleep.

The DOG on the other hand...Flipped out! Chasing it, running from it, barking like a damned fool at the thing...He was waaaaaaaay excited. And when it got near his food bowl? Wasn't pretty.

Hmmm...Guess I need to go get that laser pointer I've always wanted.

BwaHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA HAAAAA.

You did it, [info]alleycat2681! I know graduation isn't until next month, but today is actually the last day you'll be there, and you won't be at graduation anyway...

Say Good-bye to Stephen F. Austin State University!

Amber, I am so proud of you! It was a long row to hoe, but now you can start to harvest the fruits of your hard 4 years of labour!

I'm sure it seems kind of scary to have this phase of your life playing out, but I know you're gonna do well in whatever endeavor you choose to pursue...

Good luck in Tucson, Sweetie! I'm sure your gonna knock 'em dead! Hard to imagine you're gonna be more than three hours away after this week...

Gotta go now. I'm all choked up. *sniff*

Love,
...t
