Where I Stand...

So, I found this the other day posted on a friend's FB page. It was a repost of one of her friends. And I just find it hit most, if not all the points for me. I'm posting this is various places in Social media today. I fully expect to lose some followers and friends. In fact, I'd be surprised if I didn't.

I'd be quite surprised if y'all didn't know this or have figured it out by now. I'm a flaming liberal.

Where I stand:

  1. Gay marriage is optional. No one in the US is forced to marry a gay man or woman. If you're not gay, the law doesn't concern you.

  2. Adoption of children by gay couples is when a gay couple adopts a child with no parents, not a child from your home. If you're not gay and you're not a child without a family, this law doesn't concern you.

  3. If you're a Christian, quit reading Leviticus and Deuteronomy and start reading the Sermon on the Mount and learn what tolerance is. PLEASE!

  4. Abortions aren't forced. If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. (NEWS FLASH--NO ONE IS PRO ABORTION!) Some people simply believe such medical decisions should be between a woman and her doctor! To reduce the number of abortions provide education and adequate birth control options. Don't defund Planned Parenthood. Dollars aren't going to abortions(by Federal Law), they're going to health care and pregnancy preventive education for women.

  5. Health care should be mandatory to all citizens of the US, not a privilege for the wealthiest citizens.

  6. Raising taxes on big corporations and the wealthy will not make them poor. It will make them slightly less wealthy. And before you scream about wealth redistribution, it's been happening for years...money is just racing UP. It NEVER "trickles" down.

  7. The poor are not your enemy. Raising the minimum wage is not a cure, but it's a step in the right direction to help.

  8. No parent should have to fear for their child's life (or for his or her own life for that matter) because that child is Black, Latino, Muslim, Jewish, female, fat, disabled, gay, trans, queer, etc.

  9. Stop thinking women have to learn not to be raped. Start teaching boys about consent.

  10. Here is where you need to really PAY ATTENTION: NO woman is going to go back to the kitchen, NO black people are going back to slavery, No true muslims are aggressive nor terrorists, and NO gay people are going back in the closet.

I'd like to add that if you feel like women, blacks, muslims, gays...basically anyone non-white-cis-male - do not deserve equal rights, equal respect, equal tolerance, you can fuck right off of my friends list.

Discuss - if you wish...

The fact that ANY of this can be seen as controversial sure does make me sad.

Holding on to Leviticus is denying Jesus' new testament to the world. Simple as that.

I'm with you on everything but taxes, but that's only because I'm in favor of raising them when the distribution of funds goes to actual beneficial causes, healthcare for example. Not congressional salaries, war and imprisonment of non-violent criminals.

TAXES - That's how we'd pay for education for all and universal healthcare... There has to be and end to corporate wellfare.

But yeah I see yoiur point as well.

I think people would actually volunteer to pay more taxes if they knew for sure they would go towards education and healthcare. I would. I'm just reluctant to believe the government would let that happen. But I'm a grumpy expat....
