David, I'm Sorry I Couldn't Be There...

Leanne, Jeannie, Becky et al

I want you all to know y’all are in my thoughts and prayers, such as they are...

I went to school with David, back in what now seems to be the Stone Age (and I guess in some ways it was) right up until the time he went into the service.

I was fortunate enough to be able to renew my friendship with David after something over 30 years when I visited Jacksonville for a few days last year. Took us a little while, but soon we seemed to be talking like the gulf of three decades didn’t exist. He hadn’t seemed to have changed much over that time. Maybe just a little more ornery...But just a little. A little more gray hair, maybe a little thicker around the middle (who among us isn’t), but otherwise pretty much unchanged.

He is one of the only folks from school, I’ve been in contact with since something like 1977.

We had a pretty good time talking in the short time we had while I was there. We talked of the past, the present, and what we hoped the future would be like.

One thing I’ll always remember about David is, if you were his friend, you were REALLY his friend. There was no doubt.

I was looking forward to spending more time with him when we had the chance.

I KNOW this man will be missed...

I apologize for not being able to attend the funeral. But I just found out about it today...I probably would have come over from Texas had I had a little more notice. Please accept my sincere condolences...

I will raise my cup and drink to the passing of your shade, my friend...Bon chance...

Any One Know Who Wrote This?

" Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of the quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stare at my grave and cry; I am not there I did not die."
