I've Noticed a Trend Here Lately...

Seems quite a few folks are dropping off from LJ. I know, attrition and all, but these just feel different.

And some are starting to fall off Facebook as well. Now THAT I can understand...*grins*

I recently started keeping a journal. An offline journal. Sometimes I find myself making more entries in it, than here.

Why are we still here? Hmmm? For me it was always about the conversation.

I seem to have lost a few of my friends as of late. And no, it isn't just the holidays. This was going on before the season started. I just didn't remark on it.

They haven't dropped me. They just seem to have left my piece of the conversation. Noticed they are conversating (it is TOO a word!) elsewhere. Just not here. And I miss them. Am I too angry? Too much of a train wreck? Just tired of me? Too damned American? Too much of a screw up?

Or maybe you are just too busy having a real life... I know some of you are. And I'm happy for each and every one of you. And I look forward to having one myself again someday...HA!

I'm getting to be too damned tired to keep trying to figure it out. I mean, I can deal. But I thought we were friends... But online is never really the same as IRL is it? Or maybe we are just growing in different directions. It happens... There's an ebb and flow to everything.

Or maybe I'm just jealous. Don't think so. Stupid emotion that... But utterly human.

And then there's the effin' drama. Don't want it. Certainly don't want to be in the middle of it. Don't want to cause it. I really don't need that. Who does? Besides I've got enough offline drama. For several people. I don't want to participate. As a matter of fact, if I can help it at all, I won't.

I've noticed I seem to be developing a certain reticence to discuss some things because they may be too personal. **I know...WHAT?!? This is LJ for crissakes!!** *grins* Or it might hurt somebody's feelings. Or maybe I feel guilty just for THINKING that way.

I need to think more on this... And maybe, so should some of you.

Is it time?

Maybe some folks are right... Maybe I need to be in some sort of therapy. BADLY...

Does this entry even make any frickin' sense? Sounds whiny to me but I'm posting it anyway...

**Oh and I'm not talking about you folk from the land of Oz... Yer as chatty as ever... Love ya! Y'all seem to be some of the most laid back people on the planet. Those of you that are on my list anyway.**

Don't take my lack of commenting too personally, k? Seems like I've got more than I can handle right now. Even posting more than a paragraph in my own L.J. can be arduous anymore.

I have noticed some friends have 'moved on' from LJ (if you want to call it that) they may just be busy too, I don't know. I like LJ more than facebook so I'm keeping it as my little go to spot on the internet. I really like the people I've met here.

I've been venting on a offline 'journal' too. Because the internet isn't really private. You've been through a lot lately and that is just the stuff you post about. You are a good guy T and deserve to have whatever support network you feel you need.

I just want to let you know I appreciate the friendship here and whatever you decide to do I support.

No drama lately. Think they must have told her to quit beating on the floor and complaining. The only complaint she really had was I was stomping around up here. And I wasn't and I don't.

Yeah this ain't my first rodeo thru the holidaze here either. I know it slows down.

I know I tend to get a little crazy at this time of year.

But I noticed before the dreaded season started...

I think some people like the instant response at FB and Twitter... I'm on FB to skim through and see what's up, but I rarely stick around long. You can't get too interested in a lot of one-liners... or I can't, anyway.

LJ is more for devloping friendships, really spilling your guts, and getting more feedback than is possible at FB & Twitter. It takes real time and maybe some people decided they'd rather play Mafia Wars and Farmville (which I finally figured out how to block from my view).

About what I use FB for as well. If I post anything there it tends to be fluff.

I've spilled my guts for several years now... I've met some pretty fine folks too...

I know what you mean, and yeah, ebb and flow.

The other day I reminded myself that if LJ is not particularly interactive, then perhaps I should just focus on posting about people and things I love or find interesting.

I wane in and out of LJ as far as activity goes, but since I've joined I've never completely left it.

But Facebook has sucked a lot of LJers out of the blogging habit. I find this to be more than a bit distressing.

Even so, a lot of LJers on my f-list are inactive. As a matter of fact, a lot of people on my Facebook f-list are inactive, but the inactive FB friends were people who pretty much just got a gratuitous FB account without ever really being involved in it.

All my defunct LJ friends used to be active at one point though. :/

Most folks do the old in and out (sounds dirty when I say it that way don't it?) with LJ.

FB has highjacked a lot of our user base. I post about it sometimes. I've got friends on FB from highschool that didn't talk to me then and they don't talk to me now. Heh. And I give about as much a shit about it now as I did then, too.

I'm picking back up with the commenting. When I read LJ I work my way down what people say and reply to the most usrgent things but then I go back and fill in the gaps. that is if life hasn't dragged me away in a rush. I've been oversleeping in the mornings so have only have had time for a quick skim of the stuff written overnight since went to bed. I don't get round to going back again in the evening as I forget what it was I wanted to say that morning

****waves the Aussie flag!!!****

It seems that there are quite a few posts very similar to yours lately....including one from me. I have always believed that as the year gets close to the end, people just start to fall apart. I remember when my kids were little, they just started to get so ratty about this time of the year.

I enjoy reading your posts, so hope you aren't going anywhere??

*waves from Oz* I think many are going to FB, plus it's the busy season!

We over here are asleep when you post (or should be), so our 'conversations' are a bit delayed.

You are a good guy, T, and a good writer, too. You know I'm always around :)

Yes, m'dear you are here when I'm supposed to be sleeping. Probably my number one commenter too. *if I kept track of that stuff. But I don't.*

Hang in there with me.

Yep, there's a lot of this sentiment going around. FB seems to be the culprit of choice.

I've been back here more in the past several weeks. I think I've finally found some balance between Mafia Wars and real life. Real life these days has also taken on renewed contact with EJ's daughters, the older of whom has decided she wants to chat with me for an hour or more every night on FB. I'm flattered that she wants the contact (EJ says she needs the guidance!)

I'm still admin on two message boards, and they're ghost towns as well. Same thing. New communities, newer blood. Faster pace.

Anyway, I've found that when you feel stifled in what you feel you can share on LJ it's time for an update to your filters, or it's time for a Friends cut. Just a thought.

My Friends list has dwindled way down and sometimes I think part of the fun is lost, but then I remember when I started, this was a *private* blog.

An offline journal is great because sometimes just the writing down makes you think deeper. Writing is slower than thinking, not like typing - which is almost as fast. I have another LJ that isn't shared with a soul. You think I'm a whiner here? Katy bar the door. The other blog whines and cries and seethes and throws things and slams doors! You're welcome!

But I ain't all about sunshine and light here either. *grins* But I'm getting better. I think. I hope.
