Dang It!

Started my dog sitting gig this afternoon. Could hear the dogs going berserk, as little dogs are wont to do, as I walked up to the front door. As I put my key in the lock, I dropped my Kindle keyboard. Even though it was in a case, it landed on the concrete with a sickening crunch. Sure enough, after I got the critters to settle down a bit, I turned my attention to the device, and it wouldn't cycle on. Kaput.

Crap! The thing has become my favorite way to read books. I've ordered a replacement as I cannot see going back to reading printed again.

But jeeeeeeeeeeeeez!

Well yeah it does. And I'm pretty sure I used a few more colorful metaphors as well.

I totally get that. Sean dropped his Nook one too many times, and I moved heaven and earth to get him a replacement in just a few days (because he didn't have to order it online).

Hey, if you didn't have one before, it's the perfect excuse to get the Kindle Fire. ;)

Hah. Got an iPad, so no Fire for me.

But I did order a touch.

Oh no! Would insurance coverage be worth it? I got it on our Droids when they were new.

I can only imagine. Seriously. But one day I'll have a Kindle of my own... eventually. I need to pare down my library due to the small space I'll be moving to. Some hard decisions to make. I'm thinking a Kindle might make it possible to save space and still feed my reading habit.

Tell me more about the Kindle experience. Why is that your preferred way to read books?

As you know I am somewhat of a gadget (or technology) freak (or geek) You have been around long enough...

I originally bought an iPad to use as an eReader amongst other things. That didn't work out so well for me. Back lighting is not good to read by for extended periods The thing felt heavy as well.

Don't get me wrong, I like that machine, it was a game changer in a lot of ways. I use it a lot. Had a couple of magazine subscriptions on it for a while.

Advantage Kindle Keyboard:

It's lightweight. Weighs less than some paperbacks.
No back lighting. You want to read, gotta have light.
Can read in direct sunlight.
Not cutting down trees for my books.
Books are not taking up room in my home. I hate to get rid of books. But let's face it, they can take up far to much room in an small apartment.
Battery lasts for about 2 months. (smartphones and tablets have for shit battery life comparatively)

Sounds ideal, especially with my moving to smaller digs. It's definitely something I will get eventually. As for getting rid of books, I found that there are donation bins around town here. I really like that idea. And yes, I'm a gadget geek, too. I more was wanting input to make sure my rationale was not based on wanting a new nifty shiny object. Though, there is that, too. But yes, I had kind of figured that those might be advantages. The being able to read in sunlight surprises me pleasantly, though. Thanks for the input, T! {{hugs}}
