When It Rains...

And it has been the last few days and nights. And I’m grateful. Keeping our temps down just a bit.

And then...

Noticed last night one of my nocturnal bartenders friends was not her usual bubbly self. Matter of fact it was very plain she didn’t want need to be at work. The whole crew was wondering what was up. Including one of the other bartenders, who asked me…

Fuck if I know…

Took me a couple of hours to corner talk to the young lady. She’s apparently had a very bad week. In a sort of public way unfortunately. I probably would have twigged had my DVR in the living room not gone tits up last Monday (I haven’t had a change to get to ComCast to change it out. But I digress) so no cable in here.

Girl lives in her own house in one of our suburban bedroom communities. Kept a room mate to help defray the cost of her note.

She found her room mate and his niece dead in his bedroom. Both had died of some sort of overdose. What do you do in a situation like this? I’d call the police, I guess. And that’s what she did. After that is when all hell broke loose. Got out to the press, and the newsies have been making her life miserable. Trucks parked out front, helicopters hovering overhead, reporters pounding on her door at all hours.

The real dealio is the niece. She was apparently underage. And not a little underage. Kid was 14. What on earth did this guy think he was doing? Dunno.

But she’s had to deal with this very public thing, police, press, not to mention finding dead folk in her house. Then there’s the semi accusatory conversations she’s had to have with the girl’s parents. And the room mate’s relatives. She’s terrified, depressed and angry all at the same time.

We did talk her into bailing a little early. But jeebus.

She’s called her family and they have ALL come to her rescue. Good on them for stepping up. Told her myself if she needed me for anything to ping, call, whatever.

Fucking news people… The public has a right to know my ass...

All I really did was listen. Sometimes that's all a body needs.

I didn't really do much other than listen. Once she got going... It was quite a while before she stopped.

You know, you are a very nice person to help her out. Yeah, the media should let her have her privacy! What a terrible thing to happen to her, no fault of her own.

Well thanks. Been called a lot of things, but a nice person didn't used to be one of them. Guess things change. HA!

And I think they've let her alone at this point, but man she was distraught.

That's horrific on too many levels.

Yeah it is...

I've seen innocent people crucified based on news reports that turned out to be untrue. Hasn't happened in this case...
