Apparently Micro$oft bows to pressure from the users and will put the [Start] button into Windows 8.1.

Apparently they miscalculated user wrath!

Didn’t affect me. The only Windows machine I have is firmly ensconced with win 7.

I had to help a friend the other night try to figure out why she could no longer view videos. I have never touched wind 8. That was fun. It was over the phone.

Looked like it was an IE 10 issue with Win 8 update. I put her ass on Chrome where she should be and all is right with the world again.

I also gave her the instructions to hack her system to always boot up in desktop mode instead of that stupid windows 8 store mode bullshit.

I do love me some win 7.

Wasn't really a good move for M$. Live and learn.

I just bought a new iMac and I went from os version 10.4 to 10.8 - I'm still trying to figure a bunch of changes out - everything from where scroll bars went to key settings.

I'd have stuck with the old stuff but I find I can't run software written in the last few years so I was forced to upgrade.

Both my macs (a 2010 Mini and early 2007 MBP) are on 10.8. And the MBP is beginning to show same age processing-wise. Maxed it out on RAM and put in a 500GB hybrid drive a couple years ago. I think it's getting to be a geriatric.

I feel ya on the software deal.

My other portable is a lenovo i5 I got last year. Win 7.

...and I use Linux at home!

PS: And, alas, Windows XP at the office. Go ahead, laugh at me. At least it is not Vista!

XP was by far the most stable platform as far as Win goes. My last employer had a big shove to convert to Vista before I ummmm left. Worst corporate POS. It simply wasn't ready for prime time when it was THRUST UPON released to an unsuspecting public.

I have never understood why they need a start button. What they need is a shut down button. But people need somewhere to access all their stuff. The start button has been there for ages and people are used to it.

tfcocs, can you come and live at my house?

Hmmm...maybe I need to see if I can see You Tube with Chrome. Unfortunately I couldn't see the last video you put up, T. I think I would have liked that music, too.

Probably habit. [START] here. Start buttons every where.

Could have been regional on the video. Dunno.

I understand I should keep my old machine until it croaks because of how awful Windows 8 is.
