Boom! POW!

Just spent a few hours figuring out what was slowing my Mac down to a crawl. Was trying to make some changes to my contacts (as in trimming the list down a bit) and everything just slowed down to a C-r-a-w-l-l-l-l-l-l. Got to a point where I couldn't open or close anything. Even after a reboot.

If this was a PC I'd be saying there's a virus up in here.

Finally narrowed it down to something to do with web browser, Safari. Always liked Firefox or Chrome better any way.

But there is definitely a little hitch in my git-along on Safari. I even updated and disabled both Java and Flash.

Need to figure that mess out, I just do not have to do it right now. Jeebus! Wasted my night messing with this. Also had some version conflicts with a couple other programs I managed to fix as well.

I'm lookin' at YOU, Double-Command! And YOU, Textexpander!

Crap like this just drives me CRAZY. Feels so good when you figure the thing out though.

Hah! Who am I foolin'? As much espresso as I had early in the evening I was not going to sleep anyway. I was buzzin' on that stuff. And now it is nearly 0430, I may as swell just stay up at this point. But it will be an early night for me on this leap day.

Still a work in progress, and I've got a workaround. So there is that...

Belated Happy Leap Day to ya and yeah, it does always feel good to untangle some tech knot. I'm just glad my old '08 MacBook is still going strong. (OK, it would like a new battery and power cord, but otherwise, all's well.)

This issue is on my Mac Mini (2010). A trouper of a machine.

HAH! Still have my old 2007 MacBook Pro. I've rebuilt that thing once or twice. Did the work myself too. New SuperDrive at one point. Put a hybrid 500GB HD in it. And had to replace the keyboard. Next thing if I ever have a spare 200 bucks, will be to replace the LCD. Was inebriated one night and knocked it off the coffe table and it landed face down. Yeesh. It gets a little worse over time. Thinking I may just hook it up to my AV system eventually and use it as a media server. Means I wouldn't need to worry about the display.
